So i will lower the speed to 30 knots then. To be honest, I think the alternate version actually looks better. Also, by heightening the radars on the original version, i would also have to increase the height of the funnels, wouldn`t want to make the ship excessively top heavy. Personally I think 18-21k tons seems a little too heavy for this ship. I have shortened the ship by 127 pixels, so the ship is no longer bigger than the Ticonderoga, but slightly bigger than the Sejon the great. The reason for this is so that the destroyer could also replace the older and much more expensive cruisers.

uhm..........
ticonderoga: 161m WL, 9000 tons
sejong: 165m, 11000 tons

note that the sejong is the IIRC currently the largest combatant in service. the zumwalt will go over that, but the zumwalt needs more size for what she does because of her special design. be sure that you want your ship to be only second to that.

The Ticonderoga still has a greater o/a length than my destroyer, and is therefore bigger, but I digress. As I said, it is to replace the aging cruisers and destroyers. Modules mounted amidships helps the ship perform a variety of missions. I think it needs to be a little bigger than most destroyers to be able to mount the modules. Also of note, my destroyer, named Ragnar class is not the biggest combatant in Tamriel, there are much larger cruisers in service in both Skyrim, the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. A few of them are more akin to the Kirov class in terms of size.

ship size is very much determined by displacement, not by length. otherwise, you could say the capacity of the invincible class CVS would be similar to the dutch JSS, because their lengths are similar. lengths OA mean even less, because those can vary because of just an longer bow and stern.
while I can agree it to be bigger then most destroyers, I doubt she should be bigger then all destroyers. mission modules do not need to be huge, especially not if you place them above the engine rooms (you have to worry about the in and uptakes though) where most ships have empty decks anyways (see burke) even an relatively small and light ship as LCS 1 could take those modules and an powerplant of the same size as you will need. I would suggest to keep the vessel around burke size because of that. (burkes are already quite large destroyers, with an 10000 ton displacement for the F2A.

The ship doesn`t really have much space that can be shortened, not without a major redsign or making a new ship all together. But who says that ships needs to be the exact size here than in real life? The world has been in a perpetual cold war for thousands of year and would continue to do so, should`t there be a slight differance than irl? This is how the ships work in this univers: Corvettes are for coastal patrol, frigates are escorts (AAW, ASW and AShW), destroyers do AAW with AShW and ASW as secondary missions, cruisers are for AShW with AAW and ASW as secondary missions. Carriers and submarines are for attacking ships and land-based targets.

fact is, the easy solution is just to scale your entire ship down. otherwise it just won't be reasonable.
whatever the role, this ship is still too big :P

Why not lay out some specifics (speed, range, crew etc). I'm sure ace could give a pretty good ballpark with regards to size that way.

I have been thinking about a story. The story follows the Royal Skyrim Academy of Science research ship RV Heppnir. The ship is out on an expedition when a very powerful storm hits. The ship ends up stranded on a large island far out in the Sea of Ghosts. The island is inhabited by a primitive, cannabalistic culture. They worship gods that they sacrifice humans to. The survivors of the Heppnir has to survive whilst being hunted by the cannibals. The Royal Skyrim Air Force sends out planes to search for the Heppnir, but two planes disappear over the island. One plane manages to send out a set of coordinates. Satellites find the island, and a small task group of two frigates, one attack submarine with special forces, and an amphibious assault ship is sent out to rescue the survivors, if any. I`ll get back to the story as I work out more details. I decided to start off with a drawing of the RV Heppnir.

Yeah, I took inspiration from half a dozen ships to make that one.
