I didn't realise how long it's been since I posted something here, but here are some Balearic aircraft using eswube's wonderful Vickers Viscount.
The Viscount was a successful commercial passenger aircraft around the world, and the Balearic Islands were no exception. The 700 and 800 series entered service with Balearic Mediterranean Airways, the national flag carrier, primarily serving British and Spanish destinations, but also many other locations in Western Europe. As more jet aircraft began to enter service later in the life of the Viscount, the 700 and 800 fleet were mainly used for shorter routes, such as the high frequency inter-island routes and the large cities on the east coast of Spain.
Following successful trials of the Rolls Royce Tay turbojet engine on Viscount prototype 663, the 700 series aircraft was modified to accommodate this engine. The prototype 700+ was evaluated by the Royal Aircraft Establishment before entry to commercial service, as shown below.
Naturally, with increased speed and range, the improved Tay engined variants followed on from the success of her sister aircraft fitted with the Dart turboprop and proved to be an excellent regional / short haul passenger jet aircraft. The Royal Balearic Air Force purchased several of the aircraft for transport command, and typically used for VIP transport of members of the government or royal family.
The 700+, and later 800+, also saw service with Balearic Mediterranean Airways and became a common sight at Palma, Mao and Eivissa airports.
They would've looked great in real life I'm sure.
