Hi Crusader,

Would a '60s carrier still be carrying around so many 4.5in guns? I'm afraid I don't recall the specifics but I was under the impression that such heavy armament was increasingly being left off as mere additional weight by that sort of time.

Thanks, You're right. I guess I was focused too much on that angled deck idea and neglected other things. Well... I'm an absolute beginner here ;)

She's certainly a beast, love all the drawings of her. This has persuaded me to attempt plan views for my drawings.
And this growing need of "whatiffing" when I first saw plans of her...

Hi Crusader,

Still very much a beginner myself, you only learn through the questions, though - speaking of which, another one. Would a '60s (well, '57 refit, I think you said) have so many HACS directors? At least, that's what I think they are.

An interesting what-if.
The directors are CRBF, I'd expect them to be replaced by MRS-3 in the 1950s. The newer Mk V 4.5in might be kept longer than the older 4.5in mounts aboard other carriers for additional AA firepower but 2-3 mounts on the portside would need to go to make room for the angled deck and allow clearances etc.

I'll try to fix it in my next work, just need some time. Like I wrote, I was focused over a general flight deck plan issue.
