You mentioned your were working on HMS Erin's 13.5in Mk VI twin turret, all the 12in turrets from L/25 to L/50 and perhaps Admiral Latorre's 14in turret. I don't know how far you've got with these. The 12in turrets is a mammoth task and would probably take some time so perhaps concentrate on replacing the turrets/ marks we've currently got and the most common stuff. The Vickers 14in isn't important and could be left until someone draws that ship. I don't think there is anything else that needs doing immediately. I've made a few minor mods to some of the smaller guns and will go over them again when I do the radar checking.

Are we agreed on RP1's Artisan as the best drawn so far?

HMS Erin 13.5" guns are very similar to the already existing HMS Queen Mary 13.5" guns on the sheet. the only big difference is that the rangefinder on HMS Erin is placed a bit of-cent.

HMS Canada 14" guns is similar in style of HMS Queen Elizabeth 15" turret, just with a smaller gun!

we do already have the Norwegian British made 9.2" gun. want me to do the other two or.

BTW. When I had lack of god references, I just took the existing guns and adjusted them after pictures.

those turrets Hood have on the part-sheet has other people drawn, and they was based on bad reference drawings. I have done what you need to do, and that is to draw them after pictures.

HMS Hood 15" guns is different to HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Vanguard turrets. but Queen Elizabeth and HMS Vanguard turret have the same turret design, but HMS Vanguard was so big that they could afford that extra thickness in armor on the turret, by just adding an slab of more steal on it.

The other reason that those 15" turrets differ is that they was designed to fit that ship they are designed for.

look at HMS Dreadnought 12" turret the flank turret is also an twin turret, but it's a bit smaller than the center mounted turrets.

Great work Heuhen. I'll start work on the sheets. Actually the New Year deadline is a good one because I start a new job after then and my drawing time will be curtailed...

these are the IRL turrets that are replacing the old and somewhat inaccurate turrets on the RN sheet.

heuhen: did you use the 15" turrets that I drew for the "refitted" Queen Elizabeths? I actually spend considerable time measuring it etc, so, I hope you didn't draw it anew, since I won't change the turrets out on the existing drawings... just saying...

I believe I only modified it a bit. like:

- adding of roof armor slabs, as shown in some pictures.
- something that looks like wings under the rangefinder.
- new rangefinder.
- adjusting shading, for representing the turret it self more ... looks more real, somehow. (or tried, at least)
- removing some lines that should not be there, since the turret is round formed and don't have corners.
- size adjustment!

if it these guns you are referring to:
http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx16 ... 1936-2.png

Here I'll show you how different the turret are (note mine turret is based on HMS Vanguard's turret, a turret similar to "QE" turrets, the only deference is the added armor on the front part of the vanguard turret.):
[ img ]

1. these turret is just an old modified turret.
2. that dark grey line in the center of the turret, shall not be there. It's an error that have come from people that have used bad reference drawings.
3. To the left I shove how the outline of the top-view will look with the old lines. while the right one shows how he turret looks "IRL". spot the difference.
4. When I draw this turret again back then (a couple months ago, and I posted it back then to) I draw it after correct drawings, pictures and model-ships.

You are not the first one: these turrets is in fact round with flat angled side's, and not multi angled surfaces. But in the end it's you that decide to change to the correct one or keep the: oversize, totally inaccurate turret.

[ img ]

All I have done with all turret, is either make the existing turrets more perfect, or redraw them if they are totally wrong. I did a bit of both on the 15" turrets.

But since you'r drawing aren't uploaded yet, and you are one of the member that is out after making a drawing as accurate and perfect as possible. and the work of changing from wrong to correct turret is just 10 minuts work...

That reminds me about that HMS Hood is drawn with the same turret that HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Vanguard are using. some are wrong since HMS Hood turret was of a different design (same gun, but different turret) something this model shows:
