His Majesty's Airship HMA-1 Mayfly (1911).

So, periodically I get in a Zeppelin mood, someday I'd like to do an R/C one...a BIG one. So while surfing I ran into HMA-1 and started drawing.

Finished the thing and thought it might be a good idea to see if anyone's done it already here at SB.
Then DAMN!

Bombhead's got a nice series of British ships already.

So, treat mine as another interpretation based on what I saw while going cross-eyed staring at grainy photos...and adjusting for SB standards.

 Great drawing Craig, I would actually say better than mine. I think you may need to check the size though I had Mayfly down as 512 feet long with a diameter of 46 feet. :geek:

Good work, but I'm wondering if it's purposal that the mid upper section is one toned grey?

Kim: The gray tones are deliberate to reflect tones that appear in multiple period photos, the highlight area shifted upward one level to bring it closer to SB lighting practice. I suspect the gray values in the images would be caused by 1) different paint batches -or- 2) fewer coats of paint, creating a different reflective value.

Bombhead: Thanks for the scaling catch. Hope to correct that tonight.

Will also post a couple links to period images...on the road right now.

It seems we have some excellent airship artists on these boards. Great work.
