Thank you Colosseum. After looking at your work, I'll take that complement :)
I can think of much more aesthetically pleasing ships, but i was going for that boxy look of the 70's and 80's. Three white things on the rails are just vinyl covers that are put on to "dress up" a little. We usually put them on for home comings, or pictures and special ceremonies. I've seen them in grey and white

I think it looks really nice, unfortunately my opinion does not count for much. ;)

What are the white things on the railing for? I've always wondered this.
canvas.

for the LM6000: theoretically, from 1970's onward. it was only tested for use on USN surface combatands in about 2006. (at least, that is suggested by wiki and press releases found by googling it.)
note: known is that no combatand uses the LM6000, only cruise ships...... there might be an reason for that.

Thanks for the comment erik t, and yes. It is a lot more hull than a Tico. I like to think that maybe it (after Flight IIA) might be nicknamed "Kirov Killer"
I don't see why anyone would do that. US post-war doctrine has always been to let aircraft carriers or submarines take care of major opposing naval units. And besides, there's nothing about this ship that would make it exceptional at taking on surface units of any kind.
I get why a person might want to draw one (I'm one of the guiltiest parties of all), but that's very different from actually suggesting it makes sense.

After some research (and by that I mean I went to Wikipedia) it seems that the only differences between the LM6000 and the LM2500 is that GE gives one name to one engine that's used in warships and the other name to one engine used in civilian and power station applications. They both use the same exact core, from the CF6 aero-engine.

klag, they use the same core, but the LM6000 seems to be quite a bit more powerful.
Quote:
The GE LM6000 PC is rated to provide more than 43 MW with a thermal efficiency of around 42% LHV[1] at ISO conditions. With options, this can be increased to around 50MW rated power.[2]
Quote:
The LM2500 is available in 3 different versions:

The LM2500 delivers 33,600 shaft horsepower (shp) (25,060 kW) with a thermal efficiency of 37 percent at ISO conditions. When coupled with an electric generator, it delivers 24 MW of electricity at 60 Hz with a thermal efficiency of 36 percent at ISO conditions.[1]
The improved, 3rd generation, LM2500+ version of the turbine delivers 40,500 shp (30,200 kW) with a thermal efficiency of 39 percent at ISO conditions. When coupled with an electric generator, it delivers 29 MW of electricity at 60 Hz with a thermal efficiency of 38 percent at ISO conditions.[2]
The latest, 4th generation, LM2500+G4 version was introduced in November 2005 and delivers 47,370 shp (35,320 kW) with a thermal efficiency of 39.3 percent at ISO conditions.[3]
