Here are what I think the major versions of the USN Supercarriers are:
  • Forrestal Class:
    • At commissioning
    • After removal of forward sponsons & Guns
    • Post-SLEP (Technically only Independence received a full SLEP, as is rendered below).
  • Kittyhawk Class:
    • At Launch (with Terrier)
    • America at commissioning
    • Post SLEP
  • Enterprise Class:
    • At Commissioning
    • After Addition of BPDMS (currently in progress)
    • After 1980s refit
    • late 2000s
  • JFK:
    • At commissioning
    • 1980s
    • Option: with Mk 11 GMLS/Tartar system
  • Nimitz class:
    • At launch for the first three
    • TR sub-class at launch
    • Something in the 1990s
    • Ronald Reagan
    • George H.W. Bush (these last two having hull differences)

The more I read this thread and see what is starting, the more it makes me want to have a go at something on these beasts, but the enormity of such a task seems at first a bit mind blowing.........!

That drawing Charybdis is extremely clear, I am wondering and searching for similar reference for other US Big sticks.

Just to be clear on the overall length 1,037ft means from the edge of the flight deck aft (the overhang) to the edge of the flight deck forward and NOT including the catapult booms which would add another 20 odd feet. I fallen into this trap before so I want to get it clear.

That Why I measured here at the waterline. The last thing to change on a ship is the waterline (LWL)

I have loaded up CV-60 (Forrestal class, Generally) to the refs& parts folder in dropbox.

Superb work. We can now start allocating work to the group. I propose we hand out sections i.e. The underwater hull, the island, and cut the hull into sections. Let me know what you think. Start with basic detailing etc...

I can be the man that just scale and clean up the reference drawings. Then look at what other people have done, studying pictures to see if they have missed something, or done an error, etc. (We can call me: "They safety man..thing.. boy!")

The CV-1 is already done, and I remember that. because I searched some references for it. I uploaded it in to dropbox for you.

edit: just turned on my other computer and the first po-up message on that computer is: "US carrier folder is now available" and "236 files added"

I was like: WUT!
