Yes its iron holding the rudder on, same for the piece at the bow. it would not have been covered with the copper, nobody was worried about dissimilar metal corrosion when the ships were being built. the ornamentation at the bow is referred to as a figure head if its a person (like the Andrew Jackson figure) or a billet head if its not (like the simple circle design on there now). the extra scroll work behind that around the head is also covered under that term. the standing rigging from the 1817 sail plan looks identical to 1812, the actual sails look different mainly the inclusion of skysails. i dont know of any hull plan for connie other than the one in chappelle
