Earlier this year the TransPac LA-Honolulu race was won by the classic sailing Yacht Dorade, the same ship that had won the exact same race back in 1936. This classic wooden yacht was designed by the 21 year old Olin Stephens in 1929, with construction continuing into 1930. The Yawl had also won the 1930 Trans-Atlantic race, the 1932 Bermuda Race, and the 1933 Fastnet Race. I recently found a copy of the sail plans for the ship from her 1936 season, and set to work rendering her as such. I'll be studying the pictures from this year to get a feel for the rigging and sails from the 2013 race, and hope to have that version of her finished soon.

Amazing work. I find that doing such small craft extremely challenging.

Thanks. I needed to get something done to feel productive with the walls I've hit on Enterprise and Rotterdam.

Cute! Reminds me of a few oldies at my local Yacht club

That's very neat. My only quibble is that the waterline is poking out of the hull at both ends.
