Post subject:  Shipbucket FAQ project

Gentlemen,
we would like to write a FAQ thread that will not replace the rules section but could assist the members clarifying some details like:
- when do i need to credit someone else?
- how to title the drawing?
- how do I get my drawing uploaded to the mainsite?
- were should be placed aircraft?
- at which angle should be the guns'
- when missiles should be horizontal and when vertical?
- where should I put the missiles?
...

So everybody is invited to add their questions and/or doubts. We will review all summarizing the questions and making suitable answers - Thank you.

Good idea Lazer_one.
I would like to add the question of platforms: when do I use 3 pixels and when only 1 pixel when drawing platforms?

Good idea indeed.
May I suggest adding some explanation on how to place searchlights and how to fly flags and ensigns?

Well, I would say first and foremost, before we post anything for comment and/or future upload to the archive we have to accept that they will be judged by Shipbucket standards. So:

PLEASE READ THE RULES

I'm getting fed up with reading postings of otherwise good drawings where the artist hasn't bothered to read the rules then ignores basic conventions.

Heh, I changed the title to be bit more informative what we are planning as taken that this hasen't got much intress (don't dare to claim that you allready know everything ;) )

The idea is pretty simple, ask what ever you want to know, or think would be something that newbies would migth need/want to know and after we have gotten good set of questions, we figure out answers and establish the proper FAQ somewhere

I have one for FAQ. The fair use agreement says "...author credits must remain on the image in a clear and easily discernible fashion maintaining their font size, font style, and font color." I want to include a shipbucket image in a book and the publisher has strict style rules. Can I change the font style to match his style and the increase the font size (so it is legible!)? Alternatively, can I move the author attribution to the caption and explain there that it is from shipbucket and give author attribution.

Shouldn't you contact the author instead? As far as I understand ShipBucket does not hold copyright to the images.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Shipbucket does hold the copyrigth, in sense that the artist themselves do have their rigths to be recconed. Shipbucket images themselves can be only used as they are with their proper and full credits displayed.

Generally in all matters about publishing shipbucket work in commercial ways one should contact the adm. team of SB and future on (with help from the adm.) from the artist themselves.

My understanding is the Shipbucket is a copyright, but we allow 'fair use'; also, however an image is used it must show both the artists name and the Shipbucket logo where it is used (as in new drawings). After a quite insulting hijacking of one of my drawings by another website, where they have imposed their own copyright, I'm beginning to loose my good will toward folk who parasite others work.

Indeed it is, at least in the US. In order for it not to be fair use the author would have to opt out of it.
