I have no idea what should show and what should not. I have always worked on SB being sunrise 6am, drawings 9am, so that sun is at an easy to work with 45 degrees. I use the three shade theory, e.g. guntub light/medium/dark, same with turrets and angled superstructure parts. But what should be done with the enclosed bows on the carriers with the wide bow at flightdeck level then curving gracefully down to where it meets the bulk of the hull. In the drawings below from popular artists, you can see what has been done with the early drawings and some of the later ones like Garlic Designs bow work. The two of mine I included to show that I have been trying to think about it but the execution is crap. The Bow top/middle for the Athena is my latest effort and I think I might need to try that again. If anyone has some theories on what can be done to improve the look, maybe with some example(s) I would be very happy to learn how to do this work better.
