Hello everybody I have been visiting this site periodically for years, and have just recently created an account. I was wondering about the dos and don'ts with regard to asking members if they would be happy to draw a particular ship, or what the etiquette is when putting out a personal design challenges? Is this something that allowed, or is it generally frowned upon? So the above does not sound too enigmatic, I have an interest in alternate history, and have an idea for one of my own. Essentially, this would be Germany being allowed to re-arm somewhat earlier than in our timeline due to the Soviets doing better against the Poles in 1920 (basically no Miracle-on-the-Vistula). The end-goal would be to create a mod / scenario for Darkest Hour (this is a game based on Hearts of Iron 2) spanning the period from say 1928 through to 1948. What I would like to do HERE is nut out what warships it would be practical / realistic for Germany to build in that period, and get the images (in ShipBucket style) to populate some of the graphics of the mod - just to clarify, this would be a non-profit endeavour, with the mod itself freely available to the members of the Darkest Hour community. Anyway, I hope I have not over- / under-explained above. Regardless of anything else, I think it really cool that a site like this exists, and it is always very exciting to see these grand old warships come to life. Cheers, Amartus |

Welcome, I think you can ask, but I don't think you can expect lots of work unless you give it a try yourself (and don't worry people will happily critic your designs) and having more than 1 design completion open at any time tends to just dilute the work.
Essentially, this would be Germany being allowed to re-arm somewhat earlier than in our timeline due to the Soviets doing better against the Poles in 1920 (basically no Miracle-on-the-Vistula).
Ok my take on this is that you would not need many more ships the Soviets didn't have much in the way of modern stuff so just adding a few more destroyers for Baltic work ?in OTL limits,
twelve destroyers (not exceeding 800 long tons (810 t)) and twelve torpedo boats (not exceeding 200 long tons (200 t))
So maybe up to 24/36 of each ? should easily deal with any Soviet fleet unless they build a lot more ships.I think the main point would be they would be allowed more in the way of an army (and maybe CAS aircraft ?)
get the images (in ShipBucket style) to populate some of the graphics of the mod - just to clarify, this would be a non-profit endeavour, with the mod itself freely available to the members of the Darkest Hour community.
Not sure about if this is allowed (would they still be credited ? you should PM Gollevainen to get a answer)

Hi JSB Thank you kindly for your reply. This is an AU that has been bouncing around in my mind for a while. I will have to post a timeline (although that might be better set to another sub-forum rather than General Discussion), but I have the following basic goals: 1. Plausibly allow for Germany to restore (at least some of) its pre-WWI status / position without the Nazis or other such idiots coming to power 2. To reduce the preponderance of the UK / USA, so that 3. There is a manifestly multi-polar world restored, rather than one or two super-powers With regard to the images themselves in such a mod for Darkest Hour, I might have cocked-up my explanation before. Basically, each model of each unit has a picture accompanying it. These are generally photos from the period. So for example, the model representing the Deutschland Pocket-Battleships might use a picture of Graf Spee, or Admiral Scheer, or Deutschland / Lützow herself. For 'never-weres' or personal designs such a possibility does not unfortunately exist, which is why I thought of using ShipBucket images instead (should the site / the artists give their permission). I will try to post some examples of what I mean tomorrow. Anyway, thanks again, Amartus |
