I'm working up some ideas for my personal naval vessels and was wondering what is the standard height of each deck? Want to make sure everything will fit inside. |

iiradned, That's a wide open question! Narrow down your time period. Heights range from bent over crew (think old wooden ships) to high enough for jumping around. CraigH |

It also depends on where you are on the ship and how much you want to hide in the overhead. On my current ship there's about 220cm from deck to overhead and the overhead is about 80cm on top of that, so around three meters in all in the accommodation. In the engineering spaces on the other hand there's at least twice that, except for one of the platform decks and the tanktop where there's a good deal less headroom. |

in all honesty there is no such thing as a standard hieght on any ship... highs are determined by design. if you are designing a new ship and want everything clutter free with stuff hidden in the rafter as to speak go with thiel 2.2m from deck floorto ceiling with .8m between decks to allow for strcture and cable pipe trunking etc. this shoud allow a normal sailor (average build man/woman to freely walk around without a sore head..... in the real world other factors also play into mind ie systems or things fitted after wards that require extra trunking etc. i remember when i was in the TA in the UK we went down to Portsmouth and were given a tour of the then new HMS Bulwark. a new modern ship but still there were areas were you had to duck..... older sailing ships like HMS Victory unless you are on the main deck or top gun deck then you walk everywhere bent over like the hunch back of nontradam. Thanks for the replies. It is for a near-future surface combatant, so I'm going with 3 meters total. |
