Basicly me and Colosseum have decided after imput from one of our senior moderators to Dispolish the entire moderation team and function from this forum, as well the concept of "staff" or some corrupted elite who has all the saying on matters....
Even up till very recently, the constant source of proplems for this forum has become when people in the position of moderators have managed abuse their powers in so that it envolps into huge internet drama... and sadly this has been almost a norm rather than exception in all cases we have even needed moderators.

I'm not going to point any spesific fingers, since we have had lot of moderators and propably everyone has fallen to the sins of internet-police-brutality and Thus we figured out that booting just one or two mods would not solve anything, since all propable new candinates would most likely fall into same trap themselves.
Also, we've been thinking the overal need of dicipline in forum like SB, and the conclusion has been, that we can actually manage with just one or two source of extreme actions, otherwise the peer pressure and good behavior of our more senior members is well enough to keep our rascals in check. Its not news to us in high ivorytowers, that the reputation of SB has lately became rather gestapo'ish and thus alienating some members and potential members.

Therefore Colosseum and I have decided to bring new look, new level of joyfull communality into this very community of ours. No longer we want hierarchial structures of which would dictate who will have the rigth to say what and so worth. No. In future, basicly everyone who is intressed and has the urge, can participate in managing SB. In near future we are getting serious rewamps to the actuall mainsite and archive features, and we have high hopes on its regard. It would open opportunity for many our busy workhorses who have altruisticly worked for this community without any "powers" to be abused, and we hope this new spiritual image of SB will influence them to take more responsibility over issues regarding the quality controll, stylistic issues, educating newbies in positive manners and participate in maintaining the archive. In future, we try to impose as much democracy as possible in decission makings and Colosseum and I will remain as technical administrators to controll the everyday tasks in hand and use the moderational powers against spammers and obvious troll's.

So, I like to thank all the former members of the "staff", they have worked hard, and despite some overboard instances, My impression of everyone has been mostly positive, and I wish they all continue to serve in their senior member role to guide and instruct the newer generation and actively participate in the everyday forum life in good manners and in good spirit. Naturally I also understand if someone sees these actions as personal insult against their ego, and if someone has proplems with this, they can also choose to withdrawn completely.

Hear, hear. A wise and prudent decision, well explained.

I'm sure we all, with the best of our abilities will attempt to live up to your expectations. Please count on me there!
And, lest it be forgottten: the inferrence from Golly's statement is that we, the members, and especially the veterans, will have to assume a more responsible and, in many cases a more cautious attitude and approach to, for instance re-directing or advising a member, especially a newbie/rookie. I know I'm not above reproach for past committed sins and thinking errors, but this will somber me up, and I hope the rest will follow and realize what an opportunity this is for SB.

Thank you for allowing my "five cents"!

Yea, basicly I would like that everyone who is intressed and willing to participate, to participate. Most of you regulars know whats the thing with the drawing and stylistic rules, and what sort of things belongs to where and so on, and since everyone seems to be allready doing so, why not give them sort of ... "blessing" that they know they are doing the rigth thing. So without everything beeing "offical" and serious, I would like that we would be lot more communal and lot more discussive among each others.

I don't want any sort of "fear" among our members that prevents them from not expressing their opinions and insigth and speak up when they think something is going wrong. Too long we have had atmosphere where some too strong inviduals are supressing others and everything is too much rolling around strong critisism of drawings based on personal relationships between members. I don't want that any more, so abolishing hierarchy is one set of the course I want this ship of ours heading.

Just thinking loud!

"why not give some members some sort of mark or logo. A logo that show: "this is an .... teacher in this forum, from him you can learn". And it's only for beginner forum, thus we can clean it up a bit in that section. It would also give a "noob" only two three persons to mainly get help from, and not a hundred persons with different opinion to relay on. but that dosn't mean that other people from the forum are not allowed to help a "noob""

or something similar.

Hmmm...sounds awful close to what Golly and Colo decided has not worked. Besides, Henrik, I'm wondering if you're thinking this concept through to its fullest implication: three people (or so), that would provide a very limited scope of experience. Mind you, we all have different backgrounds with regards to education and life experience, hence we can draw from different mind sets in our quest to assist.

What we need to try to avoid are these grand-standings andego postures, that I believe most of us have been guilty of at one time or another, and be humble and generous when offering our counsel. Quirky, fun comments should still be allowed (I know you like those!), but the kind of mean, demeaning commentary that I've seen occasionally, let's get rid of that finally!

Thanks everyone for your patience during this transition.

We would like to move away from the "tiers" of membership, hence the removal of the moderator group. The volume of cases that actually require intervention is fairly low and can be handled by Gollevainen and I as the administrators. This new model also takes us back to the original wish by MConrads for Gollevainen and I to administrate the board.

Bezo is sort of rigth. All sort of titles of some "level" would eventually lead into same thing we've been recently. I sort of want equality among the members and clear and honest communication between us adm and you. I think its more to the positive goodwill to help people without using it as way to boost some ego, that we need in helping new guys. All merit and badges we really need here is the ships we've drawn. The orginal idea behind this also included abolishing even the member ranks, but We though that would be too drastic too soon. But propably in future we migth poll the issue and see how important those ranks are to the people.

  1. Some heads-up would have been nice <Shrugs>¹.
  2. I'm still available for preforming background support tasks (uploading, sorting possible uploads², ect.) as a regular member.
  3. I'm going to have to change my resume/CV now as I did list "Shipbucket.com Contributor/Staff Member" on it³.
  4. When you do start bringing staff back in (and in a community of this size some staff will be needed to move things around, kill spambots⁴, be around when you are not, ect.) I ask only to be considered.
  5. Thank you for the Elite member status.
1. Purging the staff without letting us know in advance is known as a Dick Move. An Exceptional Dick Move.
2. I was going to start an upload session today. I can still do that if you want, as we haven't had an upload in some time. You'll just have to follow directions on the zip file I send you.
3. Seriously, I did, and it got me a couple of interviews.
4. More of those around than you might realize.

Thats great. In the future idea, Its basicly so that everyone would work in the field they know best and where their skills are mostly needed, thats the idea of the new friendly community. When the new features kick in, we will know more what the exact roles of the future will be, but I wont disclude anyone out. Everyone should be allowed to be part of SB if they can work together with others.

well the idea would be that we no longer need staff. Naturally members with seniority among us, will retain it even by their own existance here so You are as much entitled to be proud member of SB as anyone. You've done to us many good things and services and we all are thankfull of them. If need rises in some emergy, and we need to temporarily establish some sort of militia-moderations, naturally those whit experience will be asked

Perhaps. But sometimes decissions needs to be made immediately and firmly. Bad situations usually requires sacrifices and this time it was the elite caste and powers of few people that needed to be sacrificed.

I don't think we going to make uploading session before we get the new features going on.

Well, this ties into the fact that a git of heads up would have been very nice.

A-E were the posts, 1-4 were notes. Point 1 was with A (ie, lack of headsup was dickish); Point 2 was with B; Point 3 was with C (I really do have it on my resume); & Point 4 was with D (there are more spambots that hit than you might realize at first - but you'll get to see them now!). Note the superscripts in the posts.
