KolourPaint is a MS Paint-like paint tool for Linux. It is mostly similar to MS Paint, one exception is that it supports transparency. Of all the simple 'Paint' programs for Linux, KolourPaint is the most well-developed (see this comparison) and I myself use it for drawing. The versions of KolourPaint on the KolourPaint website are out of date, the latest versions could be found in software repositories of Linux distributions.

I'm unclear on why a person would use this tool when Gimp exists.

Well, I tried to use Gimp (for Win.XP though) and didn't liked it, so if I had Linux instead, perhaps I would use that KolourPaint.
Besides, Judah14 kindly mentioned about potentially useful tool that could benefit some segment of our community, so why to be so negative?

I mentioned this tool because unlike GIMP it is easy to use and works much the same way as MS Paint.

For linux, I prefer Pinta, as it offers more features than most basic programs while not being as large as the GIMP.

And, after trying it, a good substitute for Paint.net (it was actually modelled after Paint.net).

I know this thread has been inactive since December, but I don't recall the concept of a "grave dig" being a thing on Shipbucket.

I replaced Windows XP with Linux Mint 16 on my personal computer almost two months ago (I'd been planning to switch to Linux eventually for a while, but necessity drove me to act immediately after the old OS had become so slow as to be practically unusable), and I'd been wondering what program would be the best replacement for MS Paint. Pinta was my first choice, but I found it too awkward for me (the simple act of selecting, dragging, and dropping had been split into separate tools in a way that was profoundly annoying, among other things). It also froze and wouldn't let me close it despite several attempts to kill the program every which way (I eventually shucked it over to another workspace so I didn't have to look at it while I finished up my session, which is a nice feature, and I promptly got rid of it the next time I got on). As I went hunting for alternatives, I tried XPaint and immediately hated it (it's clunky and feels like being stuck in a 1990's-shaped time warp). Kolourpaint was definitely the way to go for me, and it feels generally like MS Paint. The only issue I have yet to resolve with respect to doing line art on Linux is how to temporarily disable the blended font display (on Windows it's called ClearType) when using the text feature to label stuff. If any Linux users here know what to do about that, I'd love to know.

I use GIMP for the text. I find KolourPaint great for drawing, but I still haven't figured out how to temporarily turn off the anti-aliasing. GIMP is very complicated to use for drawing but turning off the anti-aliasing is easy, so it is great for text.
