Post subject:  Crediting

Hi all!

A small matter here, some might consider it trivial. Regarding the crediting of drawings that have more than one contributing artist: Where to use an ampersand (&) and where to use a comma?

I don't think there is any official position on this (correct me if I'm wrong) but I think it would be good to have one.

(Jabba & Username)
When I see this I assume that the drawing has been a joint venture by two artists, for example one finishing another's WiP, or a truly collaborative project with both artists taking turns to complete a particular drawing.

(Jabba, Username, Anotherusername)
When I see this I assume that a drawing originally created by me (for example) has been altered or part of it used by two successive artists, or a chunk of my drawing and a chunk of 'Username's' drawing has been kit-bashed by 'Anotherusername'.

Hopefully this makes sense to everyone! Should this be adopted as the 'proper' way of crediting? Does anyone have other suggestions?

that is at least how I always use it, as you can then do 'Jabba & username , anotherusername' quite simply, and everybody knows what you mean. that said, as of now, I believe there is no official rule on this, the '&' being equal to the ','. it is, at least to me, an very good idea to implement this officially though.

I have always seen the '&' and ',' as interchangable, as older pictures in the archive had both. I personally always use the ',', but that's a personal prefernce, style- and format-wise.

Alternatively should Shipbucket revert to Harvard or Oxford referencing? ;)

I always (with a few exceptions from my early days on the bucket) use commas instead of ampersands, IMO the latter is better for joint-projects and the former for kit-bashes and modifications.

If we're going to change the whole way crediting is done, the change should be meaningful... not just to swap the delimiters and call it good.

The really correct way to credit is this:

(Original drawing by XYZ, modified by ABC)

No ambiguity, no stupid bullshit, everyone's happy. ;)
