Any one who can help me with the type symbol for a gunnery training ship? I know US Navy used "AG" in connection to such vessels pennant number, but I'm not sure that this is the right symbol |

The USN used AG to denote "miscellaneous auxillary", (the G comes from "auxillary general"). There's also AX for training ship, which might also be applicable. |

Yeah, that was what I suspected |

The US always used 'AG', as said. There is 'TS' for training ship, 'MTS' for moored training ship, 'US' for the Soviet system. Every ship I know of in the USN, at least, used 'AG' if it was a gunnery training ship and had her designation changed. |

Jane's used AX from training ships, be them specialised or dedicated cadet training ships. If its USN ship, use the proper USN navy title naturally (and so on...) |

When the U.S.S. Wyoming was reassignedd as a training ship her designation changed from BB-32 to AG-17. |

Thanks all of you. My conclusion may be that I should use "AX" for gunnery training ships but "AG" for US Navy. |

...Which probably means I have to rename my files. But thanks for the clarity, I was wondering that myself. |
