Not being a nautical expert, I've wondered what these are. I know the first one is an aerial, but it has a very distinct design, so what's it for, and lots of ships have something like this by the stern, what are these for? |

The former is a discage antenna of the type usually associated with the USN Naval Tactical Data System. The type is omnidirectional and able to transmit and receive over a wide HF band. Ahh, Ive been wondering the same thing about those prop guards. |
