The 'Cantabria', built in the shipyard Navantia public company has in Puerto Real (Cádiz), is a ship of 174 meters in length whose mission is to provide logistic support to naval forces and expeditionary forces. In turn, the vessel has been designed for environmental protection actions, so it has elements to deal with situations of risk of pollution from spills of cargo and / or fuel resulting from shipping accidents.

Through its five refueling stations (one in stern) 8,000 cubic meters can provide fuel for ships and 1,500 cubic meters of fuel for aircraft, as well as ammunition, supplies and food to a force at sea. There is capacity to supply fuel to three ships simultaneously full navigation.

With its entry into service, the 'Cantabria' increases significantly the operational logistic support capability of the Navy and therefore the ability to project naval forces to conduct sustained operations in time at distant geographic settings.

Good luck and good sea

A delegation of representatives of the armed forces attended a demonstration flight
rotary wing UAV Camcopter S-100 of the company Schiebel. The tests
successfully developed between 3 and 5 November and add to those made by
Guardia Civil with the system from the coast guard ship Miño River in 2008.

The Camcopter S-100, a UAS VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing), performed several times
from the Experimental Center of Torregorda (CET) in Cadiz, with different profiles
mission in manual and automatic modes, showing their different capabilities and flexibility.
In such facilities could complement the demonstrations with presentations on
platform and its diverse portfolio of payloads. The scenarios chosen
included coastal surveillance operations and stand-off track contact
maritime and automatic tracking (tracking) of vehicle.

Schiebel has the support of two partners in Spain, SENER engineering, partner
technological, and APSA, as its trade representative, who managed to resolve
organizational, logistical and flight permits for testing.

According to the above SENER, the response of the officers and directors who came to these
was positive and shows "the group formed by Schiebel, SENER and APSA has established itself as
an excellent team of professionals and experts who hopes to work closely with
Spanish authorities to meet the needs of Spain VTOL UAS, both current
and the future. "

Innovations in Camcopter S-100 series

Schiebel, together with SENER has developed innovations to the system. Its president and
owner, Hans Georg Schiebel, said: "The development of this system is a process
continuous and iterative, never stop striving to achieve absolute perfection. In
short-term future, are to highlight new developments like the introduction of a Motor
Heavy Fuel (HFE) advanced the integration of a maritime radar high
performance and control with 360 degree coverage for maritime operations. "

Also, the director general of Schiebel, Neil Hunter said: "This demonstration
Spain proves once again that Camcopter S-100 UAS is the world leader in
VTOL operations. Schiebel has gained unique experience in this category with UAS
about 130 CAMCOPTER ® S-100 currently operating in the world. Its capabilities continue
without being overcome yet and hope to advance even further on the basis of our own
success. Without doubt, the flexibility offered by this system can provide capabilities VTOL
only in support of the military and other government departments, without
forgetting, of course, the many civilian applications of the system. "
