Cause the sensivity about the Third Reich amongst especially the germans I'm very doubtfull how I should make an independent thread for the german ship badges. I myself haven't any problems but I don't want to offend any - particulary no germans - if it would be perceived offending. Please give me your opinion ;)

Nothing is wrong with the Third Reich heraldry (or history, or even symbolism for that matter) as long as you don't make it about politics.

IRC both Imperial, Weimar, Third Reich and the Bundesmarine all used coat of arms to their ships, I have no objections for the subject, as it is heradldry, and by such a legimet historical "craft".

@Kim

I am German, and I have no problem with this topic or any topic concerning the Third Reich. It is part of our history and we have to deal with it.
And still, this is about coat of arms and not politics.

You should go ahead.

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad that it seems to be the same thinking about the issue as my self. I will now continue my effort to be familar with the four (German Empire, the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich and the current Germany) different navies CoA's.
BTW if anyone have knowledge of GDR used badges for their vessels it will be a natural part of it too. ;)

Will you include the Kaiserliche Marine's predecessors, the Reichflotte, Preußische Marine and the Norddeutsche Bundesmarine?

Only if they already made badges for the ships then. You have to remember the art of CoA for vessels came as a substitute for the figureheads from the wooden era ;)

I'm a little late with my comment, but I agree with the previous commentators. This is all about heraldry, not politics, and, with the exception of such vessels as Robert Ley and Wilhelm Gustloff, there were no political implications with regards to the heraldry of the Kriegsmarine - and, of course, the two cruise ships belonged to the Nazi leisure and naturalist organization Kraft durch Freude!

Its all about history, even the Third Reich is part of German's history. It will be fine as long it does not touch anything about Hitler and those sort of stuff.
