Hey all, I was just wondering if there are any elements of funnels for frigates that are needed (or just the general shape) if the vessel in question is CODAG driven? /Aster |

The only general rule is that they're generally going to be short (I'm guessing it has something to do with exhaust efficiency) while still tall enough to clear whatever structure is behind it (generally any walking surfaces; radar masts and etc can live with the smoke). Many are short little round stumps but nowadays you're seeing blocky stealth structures. They also don't need to be down the middle; a lot of ships you'll see offset funnels. Finally, you'll typically find air vents on the funnels; these are the inlets for the engines (the exact opposite of the funnels proper, in other words). |

and some has a very special variant of funnels that are out to the side of the ship. |

Yeah, that's what I mean by offset. |

Cheers! So they don't need to be too wonderfully specific if you're designing your own ship? |

Correct, you do not need to be specific6. Diesel engines use a lot less air than gas turbines, but are much, much heavier for a given power output.

and of course noisier, but more fuel efficient..... it is just what you want your ship to do |
