Post subject:  Choosing submarines for RHN AU

The real Hellenic Navy ordered 4 Type 209/1100 submarines from Germany in 1967 and again 4 Type 209/1200 in 1975.They are very good (I have visited them in Naval Week, when HN ships open to the public),but for my AU I want something different.

Again, real HN had in 1945 4-5 "V" class submarines by lend-lease from England and gave them back to replace them with US Balao ang Gato.

For my AU I thought of England gave the "V" Class (6 units) to RHN-as also I wrote about the 8 DD Hunt II/III)-.So,in 1947 RHN had these "V" class submarines. In 1958 these were transfered to Black Sea to replace the SS Delphin Class which was a pre-war design,an evolution of Papanikolis (I) Class. Finally decommisioned in 1970.Then 8 units of Triana Class submarines (based to US Tench Class but with different engines and electronics) were constucted in Neorion Shipyard in 1957-1966.
Six Triaina/Tench-M modified for launching sub-Adis I in late 1960's to early 1970's (the missile itshelf is 6.4m long, these submarines have 5.2m draft),so the modified units looked like the Delta Class. These modification was done in Neorion Shipyard using plans aquired from Soviet Union by spying (HLK has a very good intelligence service) in 1970-1974.
Of course something new is important to have,so in 1975 RHN starts an international contest for a submarine. The Ministry of Defense decided to order 10 new submarines which will serve for 40-50 years with a midlife upgrade. The modified Tenchs split in 2 pairs and served each in Aegean and Black Sea for about 30 years after their conversion.2 more Tench modified for sub-Adis in 1977-1978 for Black Sea Command and passed a small modernisation in mid 1990's by Messimvria Shipyard to use the OMI-24DU.These are officially in reserve from 2005,but still participate in exersices in Black Sea,since they are in good condition despite their age.

-New submarines must be ONLY diesel-electric,up to 92m long maximum,as quiet as possible and license built.
-Must have at least 6 torpedo tubes of 21"

-Agosta Class Submarine
-Type 209/1200
-Type 209/1300 or 1400
Something else to consider?

P.S I prefer something different from my enemy, who went for Type 209/1200 and then 209/1400.

Anyone?

I was wondering about British Dreadnought class nuclear boats or E-class deisel boats

The British/French diesel-electrics and even the French nuke boats are good choices. Also some of the older American submarines up to the Tang class (i.e. the diesel-electrics).

I said only diesel electric submarines.Nuclear ones, except of extremely expensive, are also noisy.
P.S The Dreadnought Class of submarines was a clever design, with a diesel gen for silent running.

Thanks, but as I said,RHN never thought of buying nuclear ships and never will.RHN already have Tang/Tench submarines, which modernised locally in 1960's-1970's.

According to Wikipedia,USA built the Skate Class submarine, which combined the Tang with the Nautilus. Is the opposite possible-to design a convectional submarine based to a nuclear?(design base will be one of two UK subs mentioned above).

Nice,but I prefer a "Walrus-H" if going for Dutch submarine.Besides,Dolfijn class was a 1950's design.

Updated submarine list (after last suggestions)

-Agosta Class
-Type 209
-British designs (various)
-Dutch designs (Dolfijn,Walrus)

I think you are looking at the Zwaardvis class sub of the 1970s and not the Walrus class which entered service in 1990
