Is there anything modern that could be used to replace the Mk 38 Heavy Gunfire Director on an Iowa-class Battleship?

Just about any modern FCS should do.

I remember reading that the US Navy did a study when the Iowas were reactivated. They pitted the 40s-vintage analog computers versus current state-of-the-art computers, and found that they both performed similarly, but replacing the computers aboard the ship was to be so expensive that the analog computers were kept!

Of course, these days, all the calculations for Iowa's fire control could be done on an iPhone!

Indeed, for shooting at stationary targets the existing computers were just as good.
Had they intended to use them for anti-ship work they would probably have replaced them with a digital system since it would have a significantly shorter reaction time and be able to cope with enemies who aren't constrained by being part of a line of battle. (Vanguard was the only battleship that could handle turning ships.)
