The ships contributed by various artists of Australian Naval Vessels are first class in www.shipbucket.com but are they the right colour? RAN ships are a green grey in colour (unique to this country) but these ships drawn are almost USN and RN in colour. I have spend the last two weeks trying to find the right colour hues to match RAN ships to no avail (even with experimentation). The nearest I got was as follows: Superstructure Hue 65 Red 190 Sat 36 Green 202 Lum 181 Blue 183 Upper Hull Hue 64 Red 175 Sat 36 Green 189 Lum 167 Blue 166 I would be interested to hear any ideas/comments fellow Shipbucketeers have on this issue. |

Typically is used grey (real basic grey) when there is no other info. I spent several days to find the right "cinerine grey" used by Italian navy during (before) ww2. Could you provide the color samples on a png file? |

If I need to recolor the Brisbane, to achieve a true likeness, so be it. But, yes, Lazer' s suggestion that you might be able to provide a sample would be good. |

I have recoloured my Island Class in what I think are RAN colours. |

It seems very green...I've started to use these colours: as opposed to the standard grey: I agree it probable would be a good idea to standardise on a colour, whatever that ends up being. |

Now this is interesting, and I'd sure like to get the colours right. My understanding is that we applied the standard two tone grey to upper hulls, the superstructure being lighter, and this was common practice with all Shipbucket drawings. That said, we already have an evolution with certain navies - Portugal being a good example. But am I right in thinking that grey/green hues are relatively modern? Meaning, that for a long time the RAN followed standard RN practice in hull colours? |

I've checked the photos of the Perth-class, and they don't appear to have adopted this camouflage scheme, but rather were painted standard USN grey. Am I right, or? |

I had a really good chat with my good mate Russ from http://www.defencemodels.com.au and he agrees with me that the Australian Standard hull colour for RAN ships is N42 Storm Grey. Problem is that when used in MS Paint it goes very, very green. I managed to find a neutral lighted image of HMAS Kanimbla and did a snapshot of her colours and came up with this: Attachment: Australia, Island Class PFG1125 HMAS Moreton Island (1111-20110126).png
I showed him this latest version and he thinks its fairly close (although it depends on what sort of monitor you have). Thanks heaps to Lazer_one for help with the colours. I have updated the pallette to match the new colours.
