Does anyone have any drawings of the new planned Royal Canadian Navy ships? |

http://www.informationdissemination.net ... anada.html -no formal design has been set on for the new frigate, but the type 26 GCS was offered and rejected (though it could be a short term issue due to it was a election season and they may back off if it was offered again.) MEKO D class frigates and FREMM-FR have been whisperd as being in play. As well as a a new indigenous design which as of like this summer was the prefered option. If its a indegious design i have seen people saying it will be a modernized and enlarged Halifax class or a totally new design. Frankly I would go for the T26 as in the design phase they could get there imput into the design from the get go, and because in my opinion indigioniously designed ships are increasingly cost prohibitive. -last I heard the JSS was either jointly designed with Dutch or another design with Merwede shipyards. click on both links on ID page. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sh ... rded-today. |

Why would they have gone in on the Type 26? We haven't used British-designed ships since the War. Besides what Britain needs and what Canada needs for their navies are vastly different. Going in on the "26" would have just seen the Royal Navy use the RCN fand then design a ship that probably would not meet Canadian needs. Personally I believe the RCN will go with a design that's similar to the Halifax Class, but more modernized and adaptable. Since the Department of National Defence is looking for a single design that can be either a frigate or a destroyer, this would make sense. Plus given the present government's pro-Canada defence policy, and the fact that these ships are just a part of a whole 20 year shipbuilding strategy, I would imagine that they would prefer a Canadian design to anything else that could be offered. |

whitney would say a the British might get a better ship with some input from foreign allies. T22/III was great platform so why was the T23 so poor? someone needs some fresh ideas Canada/Holland have both devloped excellent designs in the past. I am a little nervous of BaE being sole provider. |

I read on Wikipedia that there was a consideration of adding APAR/Smart-L to the Halifax class? Perhaps the next ship will resemble that concept... |

it makes economic sence to join onto a program in its infancy, it may be a Canadian design but it will be covered with French, Dutch, German, and Swedish electronics and weapons

Its possible but that will lead to alot of problems later on, the Halifax design is about 20 years old now. hull form designs have changed and generators and engines are more effiecent now. Besides they would also have to spend tens of millions... (probably allot more) to intergrate the APAR and Smart-L and to redesign the superstructer for frequency deconfliction. A clean sheet or joining someone else's frigate program is probably the better option .
