The Great Naval race

Okay, Hi to all who I haven;t had the chance to say this to :D . Last night after signing off I had this idea for a race. Below are the details.

The idea is to have a naval race, much like the one the Washington Naval Treaty was trying to prevent. The idea is that every nation's newest design must be simply "Better" than the other nations latest design, a sort of oneupmanship!

Teams-there will be nations represented by a team, these participants are may not be from their actual nation of affiliation (eg a Brit can design a German Cruiser(Ironic!)) But patriots can decide. There may/may not be a head designer for each team, we'll see how big the teams can get ( if 50 people are designing for Britain and Germany gets 2) I suppose, say a small nation, will not have a large team though.

Time period-Thinking of starting in 1900-1906('bout the time of the advent of Dreadnought?)and going to WW2? Anyway we'll see!

Designs-Anything Naval, as long as it fits in the time period really

Getting this into the water-I think we would need about 5 teams of 3 to get this off the ground, we can expand the teams or add new teams if enough interest occurs

Roll call of Nations

Initial Nations

France

yeah, that's what I'm affraid of with this too..... it will end up with H-45's and other super BB's for every country..... there have to be rules, realism, common sence etc. included before I even think of joining in, although I think it is interesting.........

Even with those we end up with Tillmans by the late 1920s.

Battleships design is a very complicated thing, and while I enjoy RPing I don't have the time for schoolwork, SbAAP, the RPGs I'm currently involved in, work, and this.

I have not much ideas how to curtail rapid expansion, perhaps having a guideline where the newer ship must be able to do its purpose on the least possible displacement?

EG

Ship1-21,000 tons

in response another team make Ship2 with 22500 tons.

I don't know, just a thought so far (maybe some judges as well?)

If this is to be in the WWI-WWII period, one could use Springsharp to determine some basic 'guidelines'- tonnage limits, monetary limits, etc- which the ships must be built within.
It's not a perfect system for designing a ship... but it might suffice.

and I would not go in 'every time bigger ships' but more to make the most efficient ones. so I would say you gave a lenght or tonnage limit for every decennium, and we would work from that.
