Having just discovered this site can I say that I am hugely impressed by the quality and number of drawings on the site. They are way beyond my technical ability and the line drawings are superior to anything I have seen in many warship books. Well done everybody. I am a ship modeller and am presently considering building a Royal Navy carrier at 1/144 scale, due to the wide range of aircraft kits at this scale. There is a commercial hull available of HMS Victorious, as first built. If I go with HMS Victorious then it will be as rebuilt. Looking at the drawings of Victorious for 1941 and 1958 I am struck by the large difference in size. The 1941 drawing is perfect but appears too small when looking at the scale, published data on ship dimensions, and the drawings of other carriers. The 1958 drawing is the correct size. I was wondering therefore if the 1941 drawing has been "shrunk" when loaded onto the site, or is this a computer glitch! Any comments please.

When refitted 1950-58 the hull was cut in half and she was lenghthened by 30ft. ;)The drawing reflects this. You may struggle to get all the aircraft in 1/144 scale.

Thanks for your reply. I didnt know that Victorious was cut in half as part of her reconstruction. There are a lot of navy aircraft available in 1/144 scale eg Wyvern, Scimitar, Buccaneer, Gannet, Phantom, Harrier, Wessex, Sea King.
Going back to the drawing of Victorious in 1941, reading off the scale gives an overall length of about 205 metres. The actual ship as built had an overall length of 227.9 metres. ie a difference of about 23 metres. Hence my comment about the drawing being "shrunk".

Good luck with the model, this one I would like to see, post some pics of work in progress 8-)Could you post a link to the aircraft model sites ? I scaled out the drawings and it appears you have a point.Victorious 1958,1562 pixels=781ft. was a kitbash of Mosquito's upper works,I lengthened DP's lower hull to fit.Mitchell drew the guns for me,DP's superb aircraft. All I really did was colour her in,and then do the port side from scans.
