I m analyzing the history of the Hvar (Lesina) Arsenal building (in Renaissance part of Venice). And have a question about the galleys that were maintained here. It was in use from the 14th until the end of the 18th century.
The length of the arsenal was expanded sometime in the 15 or 16 century from 40 to 45 meters.
I didn't manage to justify this change in the building with the Galley design
. What were the normal galley lengths in this period? Did the Galleys get longer and could it be connected with the addition of cannons to ships?
-Thanks in advance, nice to become part of shipbucket!
