Hi RP1,

I hadn't thought about this before, but I suppose that would fit with Soviet doctrine for their tanks - they were generally as small as physically possible, so crew endurance must have been something of a limiting factor, but also the magazine size for soviet tanks was quite limited as well, iirc - they may have had to rotate them out to reload, if nothing else.

It's always interesting to hear about things from "the other side".

Regards,
Adam

Interesting read, some thoughts:

As others have stated the production time and complex fitting out period for modern warships means its going to be "the army you have" situation as Rumsfeld put it. The follow on consequence is that absent equal attrirtion of forces for both sides one side is going to have a clear advatage in surviving numbers soon after a conflict starts. Maybe just days, at which point the outcome will seem inevitable and will probably create extreme preasure for peace soon after. This is true for the naval side of things but generally there would be upwards of weeks before most naval forces could be brought to bare. Where this will become apparent really fast is in the air war where both sides can bring their entire arsenal to the front in days if not hours for quick high intensity action. See the various Israeli-Arab wars for an idea of how quickly air battles can be decided these days.
