Unknown Parts on German WW I Capital Ships

Hello, Can anyone enlighten me as to what the box directly behind the aft turret is on Ersatz York? The L20E has a similar box and my only guess is that it is a radiator/ exhaust like the item farther after, except that I would have thought it would have been as such if it were so.

Looking at 'German Warships 1815-1945 Volume 1' by Erich Groner the linedrawing of the Ersatz Yorck is of the 1915 design and is slightly different to yours shown above, but it might help answer the question.
The Groner plans (side & top) shows the large vent between the funnels split into two units, the box you arrow is missing but there are smaller vents (clearly shown as such) each side of X barbette between the deck-mounted rangefinder and the aft 88mm gun. So I reckon the mystery box on your plan is a vent block too.
The 1915 plan also shows the aft-most side vent below the ship's boats extending further aft to where the first aft-facing casemate is. The only other detail difference is no searchlights around the funnel, instead they are mounted on two double-storey towers. The fore one, behind the foremast (shown on your plan) has a searchlight below the one shown and the identical aft tower is just ahead of the mainmast.
Which version is most correct I can't say but they are the only obvious differences in otherwise identical plans (even down the portholes and doors).

Rather than start another topic for another object identification question i thought it would make sense to change the title and ask another question.

On the photo above Baden has three vertical objects along the waterline, they are almost black in this photo, could anyone identify these for me? I think they continue to just below the waterline. Also what are the pipes going up the funnels? To carry steam?

In this photo visible are a number of small holes along the waterline, could anyone identify these for me? I've seen these on several other German ships, they're too close to the waterline to be portholes imo.

Its to help add detail to my L20 e drawing and others i plan to draw in the future, don't know how else to find out what they are so any help would be appreciated.
