Hi its me back again, this time I am doing a survey (if anyone's lives in 'stralia they would know year 12 students have to do a bloody god damn research project),
anyways, my topic is
' To What Extent Did Shipboard Fire Control Developments Between the Two Great Wars Influence the Outcome of Naval Battles in the early part of World War Two?'
The survey is anonymous, so I would appreciate if anyone can do it.
Its not really that long.
Once again, thank you. :)

Sure.

You've also got a typo in question 4.

Hi TF38,

Umm, I'm not really sure how to answer this - I'd argue, for instance, that in 1941 the KM probably had better fire control than the RN (I'm sure I read that early WWII RN fire control was of approximately the same standard as USN fire control in the 1920s) but at the same time, 1941 USN fire control was probably better than 1941 Regia Marina.

Regards

An interesting survey that makes you think about the battles critically.
Generally I don't believe in one factor dominating a naval action.
The Second Narvik and Dakar probably shouldn't really count, both were turkey shoots and at Dakar the defenders were not moving so had some advantage.

My main problem is what specific sets of fire control you are talking about ?

I think that there are to many types in service during the early part of the war, old unmodernised Rs/QEs, N&R, and modernized QEs and then finally the KVGs. (that's only just with battleships main guns in the RN !)

We are talking about very complicated effectively hand made systems in tiny quantities some of them appeared to work better than others but that could just be the crew or luck.
