This morning, I went to see off Gloucester as she leaves Portsmouth for the last time on her way to the scrapyards of Turkey. I thought I'd share some pictures. She was preceded on her exit by the current batch of destroyers, Daring. I've always been fond of the Type 42s although I prefer the batches I and II as I think they have more classic lines. I suppose its only the Argentinian Navy's T42s left in service. Here's a link to a news story. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-34316536 |

A sad sight, but they had long and useful lives. I'm surprised the Sea Dart launcher and some of the radar and EW antennas are still aboard (though I guess the electronic boxes have been stripped out). Also, its nice to see what the 909 mounting looks like without the randome. |

A sad sight, seeing the ship, pitted and rusted like this. Type 909 are stripped, and only the mounting is aboard. As for other radars, I believe they are so outdated there is no sense in keeping them, and that goes for the Sea Dart launcher. |

Either that or it is a paint that they used to protect it from server rust... to some point.
