Unsurprising. Though not without reasoning. In all honesty I don't foresee the need for a heavyweight SSM for the sorts of actions we're likely to undertake before a replacement (Perseus or w/e) is available. Something shorter ranged and more numerous might well be a better investment IMO. |

Harpoon has always been a bit dubious for use outside of Total War scenarios. One rather suspects that the assumption is that USN developments along the lines of the LRASM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Range ... ip_Missile) will be used. I'm not sure T26 even has space for a conventional SSM launcher. RP1 |

Hi rifleman - I thought that nobody had developed the VLS version of harpoon - the canisters are lower impact, from what I read when MihoshiK and Colombamike were discussing it, so nobody's bothered to get VLS working... Ad |

I think rifleman was referring to the LRASM, which will be VLS launched. My point RE T26 was that cannister launched options such as Exocet or NSM would be unlikely. A purchase specifically for T23 and T45 might not be impossible, however. On a historical note, Harpoon - or at least Harpoon test shapes - were successfully test fired from MK41s on land. My understanding is that it worked just fine, but with the post-CW move away from a Total War scenario the dim-but-enthusiastic Harpoon and its associated missilespam approach was no longer desirable. I think I have read that some of the later Burkes don't even have provision for the missiles to be retro-fitted anymore. RP1 |
