Check out these pictures taken by Curtis Tammany at the Boston Navy Yard in June 1932. Notice that like other Omaha class cruisers USS Marblehead had 2 of her aft casemate 6"/53 cal guns removed. Also notice that unlike any other Omaha that I know of she had one of them relocated centerline on the after deckhouse. Anyone aware of this or have any information on this unique modification? |

Such was the proposed final configuration of all of the Omaha-class, to maintain the same broadside while freeing up berthing space through deletion of the two lower guns. She was the only one to actually have the modification performed, though four others had the lower guns removed without replacement. Marblehead landed the centre-line gun by 1939. |

Thanks for the info, I am a fan of these ships and I did not know that was done. I was quite surprised to come across those images while looking for information on the MK.50 fire control director. |
