http://www.ibtimes.com/president-dilma- ... rs-1514060 Looks like Saab and its Gripen are taking over the market vacated by the Mirages as the cheaper Mach 2 western fighter. The Rafale's future is not looking good as the number of potential customers is quickly dwindling. |

Not really, the typhoon has several niche customers likely to buy it. The Rafale on the other hand really does seem doomed. Gripen winning on the other hand is nice to see, First Switzerland and no Brazil. The future's bright, the future's Sweden |

At the first project FX my choice it was the Sukhoi because of the tecnoly transfer but it was eliminated from the project FX2 and then i choosed the Gripen because it was a really new aircraft and again the tecnology transfer. |

That's a turn-up for the books. SAAB are perhaps not out of the woods yet, I remember reading something recently about a bribery allegation in relation to the Czech Republic I think. Also, Switzerland's purchase has not yet been ratified politically. I guess when push comes to shove the lower price makes more impact politically than any capability talk. Also, France was trying to sell a new carrier to Brazil linked into a Rafale deal. The idea that Brazil which is cash strapped and been after new fighters for years, would buy a load of fighters and then another batch of naval fighters and a carrier might have been a sale pitch too far. Much like the South Korean programme the politicians are looking hard at the costs of modern fighters given the ever rising unit costs. In that respect its a wonder the F-35 has gained any export orders at all. |
