The Kortenaer class frigate ex-HNLMS Piet Hein (F811), ex-Al Emirat (F 02) has been converted into a 141m long superyacht Yas. She was converted by ADM Shipyards in Abu Dhabi. Her hull has been lengthened and she has a new all composite superstructure styled by Paris based Pierrejean Design. She was launched in 2011 will be delivered sometime this year.

it hurts me to see our frigates 'dressed' like that. if I had the money to buy one of those ships, just removing the weapons so I could drive her wherever I wanted would be more then enough :P
fun fact, even with the lengthening of her waterline has actually lowered her top speed due to the lower engine power :P

The ship doesn't look bad to me but I think it's weird that they wanted to convert a frigate into a luxo-yacht. That's very close to turning a worn-out police cruiser into a state-of-the-art stretch limo. It's an old hull with a bunch of cramped spaces everywhere. I know they did it for expediency but I guess the Saudis are that pampered and impatient (which, from what I hear, shouldn't be surprising).
