A bit of context would be nice. Anyway, these sort of organizations are usually named after locals who've done something special to advance or promote the medical fields. |

Well you see, EMS here in the my place is still virtually nonexistent. Those that pioneer the development of EMS are based mostly in a few metropolitan cities in the country. What he have are rescue groups and most of the citizens equate rescue groups with first aid. Now, with a few EMS systems being activated, most of the citizens still equate EMS as rescue groups and as such, first aid and not prehospital care. So,to bring the idea of the EMS to the forefront of the peoples' understanding, pioneers set up a national society for EMTs; although not all EMTs in the country are members, set up EMS and ambulance service modeled mostly after the UK's EMS system, and activated schools that trains and certify EMTs according to standards both from the Franco-German model and Anglo-American model system. Now to further differentiate EMS from rescue, pioneering EMS and ambulance service name themselves with something that the public will recognize immediately; i. e. AeroMed, StatMed, Lifeline EMS, some use acronyms that form a word as their name. So, we're setting up an EMS/Ambulance service and rescue group here in our place. It's a small city that is frequently hammered by storms during our rainy season. |

Here in the US many of the agencies make up names or phrases using "accute", "critical", "life", "care", "medical or the shorter root med", or "urgent" somewhere in the name. So you get made up words like "MedFlight", "UrgentCare", "AngelFlight", "LifeFlight", "AccuteCare", and the like. I have no idea how any of these translate into other languages. Of course most EMS services in the US are provided by the community's fire department, and in my township they send a fire truck along with the ambulance. Two big vehicles with flashing lights tend to impress people that they are doing something important. |
