... when you realize someone broke into your truck and stole your $500 ham radio. To say I'm pissed is an understatement. |

What a nasty christmas non-gift I'll hope either the thief will get catched or - if not - he will burn his fingers off |

I'd be hoping for a repeat attempt while watching from nearby with a large-gauge shotgun. Hope the local police find him after something horrible happens to him, but not to your radio. |

I'll never see the radio again. I was parked in the driveway at my grandmother's house in her neighborhood -- the area has gotten worse and worse with each passing year. I've got the radio serial number and whatnot so I'll be filing a police report tomorrow morning. After that I can file an insurance claim and recover the cost. I've also listed the model and serial # on several ham radio sites that track stolen radios. Since it's a ham radio it's only useful for the ham bands. These assholes stole a really powerful radio, but they can't talk to anyone except hams on it. The best part is that they cut the power supply wires short of the inline fuses; if they try to transmit on high power without those fuses and there's a slight fluctuation in the power supply, I've heard the radio can burn itself up. I hope that happens to the bastards. This happened the ONE night I left the truck unlocked. I have the worst luck. I used to have a "no valuable things in my truck" rule, but had to leave that by the way-side when I got the radio. The antenna on top of the vehicle is a big dead give away for "here, come steal an expensive radio!" |

It's amateur, licensed, two-way, radio that in the US opperates on a variety of bands.

Not just the US. There are amateurs world wide. The majority of my family hold licences here. |
