I'm working on setting up a navy for my NS Nation, Pallamara, after redoing from the old setup. I froze the populace at 20 million, and the defense budget (as calculated by NS Economy) at 25.7 Billion per annum. (I'm estimating that only 2.5 billion per year will be available for new naval construction)

Now, working with a friend who is knowlegable in such things, he recommended a navy much like Italy's based around a single Cavour class carrier, 2 LHDs, with a mixture of FREMM and FREDA escorts. It seems a sensible setup for a moderately sized navy, though he has since suggested that perhaps another Cavour in place of the LHDs might be better.

My question is about the PAAMS/Aster setup. I'm not certain I favor that system, and wonder if Standard SM-6 might be better. I don't think that PAAMS has the anti-surface capability of the Standard family, seems like an unknown entity. Could FREMM/FREDA be modified for the US system, or is it entirely dependent on the Euro missiles?

I see no reason that a SPY-1F/Mk-41 FREMM would not be possible.

I favor the US system for a variety of reasons, but I am about out the door right now and don't immediately have time to explain.

I did a modification of an Italian Bergimini FREMM with the German/Dutch APAR radar replacing the Italian EMPAR(?) and it seems to be a good fit.
