Yes. It will be the Lock-Mart proposal.
The US Littoral Combat Ship is based on that concept, but screwed it up, resulting in what is basically an overpriced fast OPV. It is a good thing later versions of the LCS will have the armament of a "proper" frigate.
I would insert the word "barely" and retain "screwed it up". An over-glorified fangless speed boat is not much use hunting subs, escorting merchant traffic or performing coast guard/police duties. The only feature on the LCS I believe that showed some promise was its ability to operate underwater and flying drones. And for that purpose you don't need forty five knots speed with a daily refueling requirement. Just an opinion. |
