The Wildcat was the other helicopter they considered, but Sikorsky made a better offer.
On top of that, since the Danish helos will primarily be trundling around in the Arctic the extra endurance, range and load carrying capacity is more than welcome.

No suprise here, old Red trick. They get transfer of technology. Russia is a little step back behind western powers and try to get the most high tech toys on market. The same was with IVECO armored cars.
