I was doing some research on the Chinese Type 920 hospital ship,

and came across this side view drawing

Is it normal for the underwater hull to not extend all the way to the stern like that? Or is that just a bad artists impression of what they think it looks like, given the secrecy China shrouds, well, everything, in? (and is it just me, or does the bow look a little wonky on that line drawing, too?)

Same place I found the line drawing of the Type 920, they also had this "LPD 17 Conversion" line drawing. I guess other folks have had the same idea about using Amphibs as hospital ships

The main drawback with amphibs as opposed to ferries is their military origin. While ferries are designed to be opperated by 20 people (Not counting the hotel) amphibs are designed to have an engineering staff two or three times larger, if not more.

Good point. Crew size could be a factor, but for a naval vessel, even an auxilery, is crew size a real concern? Just asking, not disputing your assessment.

Now, me being the rather odd duck I am, I did this re-coloring of one of Charybdis's drawing in his "Ferries of Portsmouth" topic with his permission to maybe use with my "navy". I like ferries, and I think dedicated hospital ships are fairly important. It seemed a natural match for me. ;)
