Hey.

Sorry to bother you guys but I'm a bit of a naval enthusiast and want to get started with this. I might not get to grips straight away as I'm usually busy but I want to start designing ships. Already have one in mind - modern day cruiser fulfilling the old cruiser type role based on the rejected British Triton design the RN played about with in the early 2000s. 6 or 8inch guns as well as some hefty VLS banks.

Also want to ask for help with this too though: http://www.empireofthealexandrians.org/ ... index.php? The Empire's like a simulation country which interacts with other sim countries and we want to build an indigenously designed navy (and army and air force) rather than posting pictures and saying "yeah we've got a bajillion Nimitz Class carriers." I really dont have the time to do all of it so any help from anybody who wants to come onboard (no pun intended) as consultants or simply come over and build us some ship designs would be really appreciated.

Thanks very much and sorry if this breaches forum rules or something like that.

Monty.

Know I posted this a while back and its got a really positive response!

Any help would be appreciated though seriously! It operates a bit like an AU sim does over here. Alexandria pretty much has the same needs in terms of its Navy as Britain did during its days of Empire whilst operating in a very modern environment. I've tried to construct a Navy as best as I can on those terms and within the confines of the rules of the AU (http://www.empireofthealexandrians.org/ ... wtopic=139) with an independent submarine force designed to choke any response anybody could make in a war. Thoughts and help would be appreciated as I said though!

I'm also still working on that cruiser idea.....not going very well I must admit even with the help given on another topic.

Have you posted a drawing here yet? I'm sure if you post a SB-scale drawing on here (no matter how good/bad it may be) you will get plenty of comments. Drawings are what we're about here!

If you haven't started the drawing yet, I advise you look at similar size & era ships on the main site and work from there...

Okay, will do.

Honestly I feel that if I post a drawing it'll be the most embarassing collection of shapes the shipbucket has ever saw.

Oh and by similar ships you mean the ones on the lists created? And then essentially adding on parts and all that? I think I could do that by using it as the basis but afraid of infringing the copyright rules on here :S

Don't worry, I'm sure you won't be the worst.

I mean looking at contemporary designs to get ideas for size, hull shape etc. You should then start to draw from scratch your design. Using parts from partsheets, or pinching things such as weapons, sensors and aircraft from other real-life drawings is fine. If you directly copy-paste sections of hull or superstructure from other drawings, you must credit the original artist/s*.

Just get drawing and post whatever you create here! It can take ages to get your design right, so be patient!

*There are specific guidelines for crediting, but I don't know where they are! Could somebody provide a link please???

Been speaking with a guy who draws ships for another of the countries in my simulation. Some very impressive designs so sought his advice for how to do it and said I'd post a few on here. Problem is though that he thinks he's infringed the copyright rules despite trying to follow them by not crediting everyone as he borrowed parts of superstructure etc instead of just using parts. So my question is if I post them up here for him, will I get bollocked? :?

No. The fact that he wants to get help straitening things out makes people here happy.

Well if his drawings are of the same standard as those then he should probably expect some friendly bumps. :)
