wondering, wasn't the YF-17 not an USAF prototype at first? when were the navy lettering on it?

After the USAF rejected it and went for the F-16. The Navy then took the YF-17 'under it's wing' (if you'll excuse the pun), which was then developed into the F/A-18.

ah, I knew it was developed from but never knew they took the prototype in as well.
that said, may I now request an USAF version as well?
