Rhade, most of the german divisions are infantry, jaeger, gebirgs, grenadier, so they are using mostly horses. Only 20-25 % of the forces are totally mechanized...
Also, if anybody are interesting about, why have bicycle grenadier battalions, i will explain a little. An volksgrenadier division have 3 grenadier regiment(theoretically)but have only one bicycle recon company, the KStN 149.V-and Caddaric also draw this unit before! So, one of the 3 grenadier regiment have an bicycle grenadier battalion...Basically, amount of horses are doubled, if.8 infantry cart "drivers" also ride on horseback-two horse per if.8 cart...
Another excellent org. diagram!

Infantry gun company have another variation. The IG37 platoon deleted, and SIG33 platoon added. Instead of the usual RSO vehicles, in this case SIG33 guns are pulled by horses. Two guns. Mostly used by ID45 infantry divisions, but maybe also Volksgrenadier divisions. KStN 172 date: 1.9.44, same as 171v...

Excellent work, Caddaric! For me is a surprinsing fact that in late 1944 so many German units relied so heavily in horses.

Excellent work.
Just shows you how the fuel shortages were really biting by 1944. This, and the lack of vehicle production, conspired to deny the Germans a truly mechanised army, something they never got close to obtaining at any point 1933-45.

Never the less at the beginning of the war the German army was the most mechanized army, at least until 1940-1941.
All this is besides the point as this thread is full of excellent drawings, well done!

I could be wrong, in fact I probably am wrong, but I Thought the British Army was the most mechanised army in the world at the beginning of the war?

Hi, Andy: I can´t speak about all the British Army, but certainlly the BEF was the only fully mechanised of the armies involved in the western front in May 1940. Cheers.

SS-Panzer-Grenadier Division 43

Even if Waffen SS used the same K.St.N. as Heer, there are two difficulties in understanding of 1943’s SS units.
First, the TOEs that compose the division are mostly from November 1941 and not all are longer available, hence some extrapolations.
Secondly, reinforcement’s platoons are extracted from other TOEs (AT, AA, mortars…) and integrated in some companies, which must be identified properly.

Schützenregiments
Two types of Rifle Regiment, the first with three Motorized Battalions, the second with an Armored Battalion and two motorized.
