Within the newly independent Republic of Catalonia, a new airline emerges principally serving regional routes between Catalonia and Spain, as well as other European destinations. Following secession from Spain, a good deal with Airbus for A320 family aircraft seems unlikely, whilst the Catalan government is also keeping to the policy of distancing themselves from the United States, so there will be no 737's either. However, with fast growing competitive regional jet industry, Catalonia still has plenty of choice - Embraer E2 of Brazil, Bombardier CSeries of Canada and Sukhoi SSJ100 of Russia. Whilst mainly a political decision, Catalonia opts for a fleet of the more than capable Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft on highly favourable terms, and bringing with it the beginning of plenty of Russian investment into Europe's newest state.
