Hey all,
Revisited a game earlier on in the month, and something intrigued me to a very curious point.
So here it is...
Russian Republic - Russian Air Force (Frontal Aviation) - MiG-30
After Stalin's death, Russian Nationalism succumbed most reaches of the Soviet Union. Within 3 years, by 1956, one of the quicker conflicts took place, which was the Soviet Civil War - Lasting 6 months at best. Treaties were signed, and the Russian Republic was created, with its counterpart, the USSR, still surviving in the West. By 1975, the Russian Republic was a force to be reckoned with. Not belonging to any alliances or such treaties, it advanced militarily at par with the US, at times with greater cooperation with Western European nations. With communist enemies surrounding it (Soviet Union to the West, Union of Democratic Asian Republic's to the South East, and the Ottoman Socialist Union to the South West), the nation had no choice but to stay ahead technologically, and keep up numerically as best as it could. In the end, it would pay off, thanks to overwhelming West European support and Economic Cooperation.
By 1972, the VVS put in a request for a new agile, versatile, and fast strike aircraft. In conjunction with the PLFI (Advanced Lightweight Tactical Fighter) Programme, MiG Design Bureau spearheaded this new project, and eventually by 1974, made good on it, with the maiden flight of the MiG-29 and the new MiG-30. The rest is history.
Here is a sneak peek of the first introduction of the aircraft to the VVS (Frontal Aviation) on the Western Military Districts bordering the USSR.
