Despite the common stereotypes of Wehrmacht as super-motorized army, in reality it's transport was mostly horse-drawn. And due to increasing fuel shortages, with time it's dependence on horses was increasing. In fact, even the 1945 armored (panzer and panzergrenadier) divisions were in significant part horse-drawn.
