Yes, the Light Tank VI does seem overlooked, as do most of the light series, except for perhaps the Tetrach due to its more glamourous Para role. This is probably because they were tiny and relatively puny compared to most tanks of that era, even the Panzer I is lesser known than its larger colleagues.

For the first time in history I have created a FD-scale vehicle by myself from scratch.
Therefor I present:

Daimler-Benz 406


The 406 was the first medium duty version of the Unimog. Built from 1963 to 1989 the 406 was available as two-door and four-door cab, two-door cabrio and as an OEM part, whre external manufacturer recieved only the front part to be used in specialized vehicles.
The 406 was the basis for the longer 416, the light duty 421, the less powerful 403 and 413, and the 426 CKD variant assembled in Argentina to be mostly used by South American military.
A special variation was the 406 EAG (Erdarbeitsgerät = Earthmoving Equipment) with an aft mounted excavator and a front mounted plow. It was used by the Bundeswehr from 1975 until at least 1995 by Jäger (light infantry) and Panzergrenadier (mechanized infantry) units. In the 1980s the EAG was further developed into the americanized 419 SEE (Small Emplacement Excavator) used by the US Army and USMC.

Cool! I drew the Unimog 404, which will used, when I entered the army in january 1997.

Yes, I know that drawing, I have already used it to create the S 404 with shelter and the four-door cab version used as driving school vehicle. Will add it later too.
Right now I'm working on the 407 and 417 as well as the 406 EAG and railroad versions used by the Bundeswehr. The last ones will take some time.

In 1988 Daimler-Benz introduced a replacement for its succesful 406 family. For the medium duty line the 406 was replaced by the 417 which was available as a two-door cab version only with short (2380 mm) and long (2900 mm) wheelbase, allthough 39 were built with 3400 mm wheelbase.
In the light duty line the 421 was replaced by the 407, available as two-door cab with short (2250 mm) and long (2605 mm) wheelbase. The major difference between the 407 and 417 was that the 417's front light were placed inside the front bumper instead of the front grill, as well as the higher grounf clearance of the 417.

First variant of the AMX-50. Two pilot vehicles were built using differing turrets mounting the same 100mm gun.


The first AMX-50 that used the 120mm gun in an oscillating turret. Was redesigned with heavier armor and a pike-nose. Variant did not see further development due to its tall height.


A redesigned variant of the AMX-50 using a cast lower hull, redesigned front and a lighter turret. To remedy the height issue the hull was redesigned with an angle so the rear was brought lower.


A vehicle designed for taking out forifications of the Maginot line. Two vehicles armed with a 10,5cm gun was built. Both saw service on the Eastern front as tank destroyers where both were ultimately lost.


A war-time design for a heavy tank using a 76mm gun and HVSS suspension. M6 variant used a cast hull.


Same tank, but wielded hull.


Designed as a light tank to replace the M3/M5 Stuart, it ultimately grew in size and weight comparable to a medium tank. Was cancelled in favour of the M24 Chaffee.


The T20 program was an attempt at replacing the M4 Sherman with a lower profile vehicle with superior protection and firepower. Multiple versions were made that tested out different suspsensions and guns from a 75mm gun to 90mm guns.

With the cancellation of the T20 program, a new program was developed for a larger medium tank with thicker armor and a bigger gun. The program was utlimately cancelled in favour of the even heavier T26 program using the same turret and 90mm gun.


The T29 was an attempt at making a tank comparable to the Tiger II. Having a very well armored turret that was large enough to mount the same 105mm gun used on the T28/T95.


The T30 was a T29 modified to mount a 155mm gun.


The T34 was converted from one T29 and one T30 to mount the M1 120mm AA gun. Tests of the T34 would lead to the M103.


The T32 was essentially an enlarged Pershing with heavier armor and a larger turret to mount the same 105mm gun as the T28 and T29.


The T54E1 used the M48 hull with an oscillating turret mounting a 105mm gun.


The T57 used the T43/M103 hull with a large oscillating turret mounting a 120mm gun.


The T69 used the T42 hull with an oscillating turret mounting a 90mm gun.


The T-43 was a program to replace the T-34 and fixing some of the issues with said design. Was ultimately cancelled in favour of making T-34s with the 85mm gun.


The T-44 was another attempt at replacing the T-34, using a smaller and lighter tank. Armed with a 85mm gun.


A lengthened variant of the T-44 using a 100mm gun.


Same variant, but with a 122mm gun.
