Left hand side has no barrel bloomer which seems to be a late-war addition to all 5" guns. Top and bottom have no mount captain's hood, which protected the gunlayer from the blast of a mount behind him.

This came about because I'm in the process of redrawing DD-445. Somehow the version in the archive (which I made about 4 years ago) is way out of scale (yes you can laugh at me).

The current 5"/38 Mk.30 mounts are too large both height and lengthwise (off by 5-6 pixels in places). My old version was too small. This version was drawn using a properly resized Friedman's illustration of DD-445 in 1942, as well as numerous primary source pictures et al. I was never happy with the new drawing of this mount, and since it's such an iconic gun I figured it needed to be redone properly. I will not bother replacing this on other people's old drawings but I will revise Wichita with it later on.

To replace the outsized originals.

mmmm 5-6 pixels? You sure you were using correct gun ;)
here is your drawing, my older one and yours placed above my "bigger"

Mine is about one pixel too tall and one pixel too wide. Back when i drew it, I wasen't using Paint.net for scaling so such inaccuraties migth be down there more.

As comes for the style of the actuall shading, Yours present the old and unfortuanetly sort of obsolete way of shading rounded edges. There is a guide I made more than year ago in the shading guide
So IMO best rendition of this gun that I agree is the most iconic of all naval guns, would come if you would shade the edges of your correct size version instead of displaying the dark grey lines.

You use Paint.NET now??? What happened??? I thought you hated anyone not using Paint! :P

I will shade it later today and see how it looks.
